Overview

Double homeobox A pseudogene 5 (DUXAP5) is a long non-coding RNA classified as a pseudogene. Although it does not code for a protein, DUXAP5 transcripts play regulatory roles in gene expression and chromatin structure, often via the competing endogenous RNA mechanism, influencing the activity of tumor suppressors and promoters. DUXAP5 has been implicated in several cancers, where its overexpression correlates with tumorigenicity by modulating epigenetic profiles and gene regulatory networks. It is not considered a receptor, enzyme, or conventional therapeutic target, but its expression levels may have clinical utility as a biomarker. No direct evidence supports DUXAP5 as a classic drug target or as having interacting drugs, mechanisms of action, or safety concerns consistent with those of established therapeutic targets. Its main significance is as a non-coding RNA regulator in cancer biology.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable. DUXAP5 itself is not known to be a direct target for approved drugs, so mechanisms of action are restricted to its molecular roles in ceRNA networks and epigenetic modulation.

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA)Modulation of chromatin structure and epigenetic regulationMay impact DNA methylation and demethylation pathways through RNA-based mechanisms
04

Disease associations

Cancer (documented roles in lung and pancreatic cancers)
05

Biomarkers

Emerging evidence suggests altered expression of DUXAP5 (usually upregulation) can serve as a biomarker for cancer progression or prognosis, notably in non-small cell lung cancer and pancreatic cancer
