DPY19L2 pseudogene 1 (DPY19L2P1) is a non-coding pseudogene located in a genomic region syntenic to the functional mouse Dpy19l2 gene[1][2][4]. It originates from a gene duplication and relocation event, and subsequent inactivation (pseudogenization) resulted in loss of protein-coding potential[1][4]. DPY19L2P1 shares high sequence identity with the functional DPY19L2 gene, a member of a novel transmembrane gene family involved in sperm development and related to globozoospermia when mutated, but DPY19L2P1 itself does not encode a functional protein nor does it play a known biological or pathological role[1][2][4]. It is expressed at low levels in some tissues, though this expression does not result in a functional product[1].
