Overview

DPY19L2 pseudogene 5 (DPY19L2P5) is a nonfunctional genomic sequence derived from the DPY19L2 gene family, which arose through gene duplication and subsequent inactivation. It does not produce a functional protein and is not involved in any known biological processes or diseases. While other members of the Dpy-19-like gene family have roles in processes such as sperm head elongation and acrosome formation (with loss of DPY19L2 causing globozoospermia), the pseudogenes—including DPY19L2P5—lack functional significance and are not targets for therapy or drug development.
