DPY30 domain-containing protein 1 (DYDC1) is a member of the DPY30 domain family and encodes a protein important for axonemal radial spoke complexes that play a key role in the motility of sperm and cilia. It is involved in acrosome formation during the final phases of sperm development, essential for male fertility. In model organisms, it is predicted to participate in processes such as ciliary motility and carbohydrate derivative binding, supporting proper cellular and extracellular transport functions. Unlike the related protein DPY30 (a histone modification complex subunit), DYDC1 has not been implicated in signal transduction, transcriptional regulation, or as a therapeutic target. To summarize, DYDC1 (DPY30 domain-containing protein 1) is a structural and functional component in cilia and sperm but is currently not recognized as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or major disease-associated protein, and is not to be confused with the similarly named DPY30 subunit of histone methyltransferase complexes.
