DSG1 antisense RNA 1 (DSG1-AS1)

Target
DSG1-AS1
Molecular classification
Long noncoding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA (asRNA)
01

Overview

DSG1 antisense RNA 1 is a long noncoding antisense RNA transcribed from the region opposite to the DSG1 gene. Antisense RNAs typically regulate gene expression of their sense counterparts through mechanisms including transcriptional interference or modulation of mRNA stability[4]. While some antisense RNAs serve important disease or developmental functions, there is currently no evidence that DSG1-AS1 is involved in disease pathology or is a therapeutic target. Most research and clinical interest regarding DSG1 focuses on the desmoglein-1 protein, a critical component of epidermal cell adhesion, differentiation, and disease, whereas DSG1-AS1 itself is not well characterized.
