DSG2 antisense RNA 1 (DSG2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located on chromosome 18q12.1, transcribed from the strand opposite to the protein-coding gene desmoglein-2 (DSG2)[2][5][7]. It acts as an antisense transcript regulating the expression of DSG2, a gene involved in cell adhesion and desmosome formation. DSG2-AS1 exerts its regulatory effects by acting as a molecular sponge for microRNAs (such as miR-124-3p), thus modulating DSG2 levels and consequently impacting cell–cell adhesion functions[2]. While it is implicated in the regulation of processes related to cancer and some genetic diseases linked to desmosome dysfunction, evidence does not support its direct utility as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug target at present[2][7].
