DSTN pseudogene 4 (DSTNP4) is a noncoding genomic DNA sequence that closely resembles the coding gene DSTN (Destrin) but has accumulated mutations preventing it from encoding a functional protein[3][5][7]. As a pseudogene, DSTNP4 is not typically transcribed or translated into a functional protein. Current scientific evidence indicates that most pseudogenes, including DSTNP4, do not act as traditional therapeutic targets such as receptors, enzymes, or transporters[3][5][7]. While select pseudogenes can participate in gene regulation at the RNA level—such as acting as miRNA sponges or generating antisense transcripts—there is no evidence in the literature that DSTNP4 specifically serves any regulatory function, is a biomarker, or interacts with drugs[1][3][5]. Broadly, the study of pseudogenes like DSTNP4 has highlighted roles in genomic evolution and, for some pseudogenes, possible contributions to disease if their transcripts regulate parental gene expression or act as competing endogenous RNAs[1][4][6]. However, such functions have not been reported for DSTNP4 specifically. In summary: DSTN pseudogene 4 is a bona fide human pseudogene with no protein product, no known therapeutic role, no disease association, and no direct relevance as a drug target[3][5][7].
