Dual oxidases (DUOX) are members of the NADPH oxidase (NOX) family of enzymes, characterized by their ability to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), primarily hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). There are two main isoforms in humans: DUOX1 and DUOX2. These enzymes play essential roles in various physiological processes, including thyroid hormone biosynthesis, host defense mechanisms, and cellular signaling.
