Dual specificity phosphatase 13B (DUSP13B) is an enzyme belonging to the protein tyrosine phosphatase superfamily, capable of dephosphorylating both phosphotyrosine and phosphoserine/threonine residues[2][5]. This isoform is predominantly expressed in the testis, especially in spermatocytes and round spermatids, where it acts to dephosphorylate and inhibit stress-activated MAP kinases (JNK and p38), suppressing AP-1-dependent gene expression and likely playing a protective role during spermatogenesis[1][2]. Unlike the alternative isoform DUSP13A (predominantly in skeletal muscle), DUSP13B has well-defined phosphatase activity relevant to cell signaling and germ cell protection[1][2][5]. No direct drug interactions or biomarker uses have been established for DUSP13B to date. Its family has been implicated in cancer biology and cell proliferation, but specific roles for DUSP13B outside the testis are less clear[1][3][4][6].
