Overview

Dual specificity phosphatase 5 pseudogene 1 (DUSP5P1) is a human pseudogene and long non-coding RNA, previously annotated as FLJ34941 and DUSP5P, without protein-coding function. While DUSP5P1 lacks enzymatic/catalytic activity, its transcript is overexpressed in certain cancers—such as Hodgkin lymphoma, acute myeloid leukemia, and gastric cancer. DUSP5P1 modulates tumor cell biology by transcriptionally regulating genes involved in cell migration, invasion, and apoptosis, principally by direct regulation of genes like ARHGAP5 and influencing MAPK signaling pathways. High DUSP5P1 expression is associated with increased metastasis, drug resistance, and poor prognosis in gastric cancer patients. It is not considered a classic therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, and is instead studied as a cancer biomarker and a potential regulatory RNA involved in tumorigenesis.

Mechanism of action

Not directly applicable as a target Indirect: Modulates transcription of genes such as ARHGAP5, impacting focal adhesion and MAPK signaling; influences cell migration, invasion, and drug resistance

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (as a long non-coding RNA in cancer context)Potential regulation of apoptosis via modulation of the DUSP5/DUSP5P1 axis and downstream effects on BCL2L11Regulation of metastasis and drug resistance pathways in gastric cancer
04

Disease associations

Cancer (especially gastric cancer and Hodgkin lymphoma)Chemoresistance (notably platinum drug resistance in gastric cancer)
05

Safety considerations

Not applicable as DUSP5P1 is not a direct therapeutic target (no drugs targeting it directly; research context only)
06

Interacting drugs

None directly (as a pseudogene/lncRNA, not a classic drug target)

07

Biomarkers

High DUSP5P1 expression serves as a prognostic biomarker in gastric cancer (associated with poor survival and platinum drug resistance)
