Dual specificity phosphatase 5 pseudogene 2 (DUSP5P2)

Target
DUSP5P2
Molecular classification
Other (pseudogene; related to dual specificity phosphatase family)
01

Overview

Dual specificity phosphatase 5 pseudogene 2 (DUSP5P2) is a non-coding pseudogene highly homologous to the active dual specificity phosphatase 5 (DUSP5), a phosphatase involved in regulating ERK/MAPK signaling. Pseudogenes like DUSP5P2 generally do not encode proteins and are not considered functional biological targets. While expressed pseudogenes of DUSP5 (such as DUSP5P1) have been observed at the RNA level in some malignancies and may potentially influence gene regulation through transcript-based mechanisms (such as acting as competitive endogenous RNAs or participating in nonsense-mediated decay), there is no evidence for DUSP5P2 itself as a functional protein or therapeutic target. It should not be considered in the same category as active phosphatases, receptors, or other classic drug targets.

Biological functions

Other (no confirmed biological function; potential roles as a non-coding transcript or in regulatory processes but not experimentally validated)
03

Disease associations

Other (no direct evidence for disease association; expression pattern in cancer cell lines noted for related pseudogene DUSP5P1, not DUSP5P2; thus, disease role is unconfirmed for DUSP5P2)
