Overview

Dual specificity phosphatase 7 (DUSP7) is an enzyme encoded by the *DUSP7* gene, and is a member of the mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphatase (MKP) subfamily within the protein tyrosine phosphatase superfamily[3][5][7]. DUSP7 is characterized by its ability to dephosphorylate both phosphotyrosine and phosphoserine/threonine residues on target proteins, especially MAP kinases, including ERK1/2, JNK, and p38[1][2][5][7]. Functionally, DUSP7 negatively regulates MAPK-driven signal transduction, influencing key processes such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation. DUSP7 activity is especially important for proper embryonic development, particularly in the formation of neural and cardiac tissues[1][2]. Dysregulation or increased expression of DUSP7 has been implicated in cancer, notably leukemia and breast cancer, where it is associated with poor prognosis. Research is ongoing for the development of DUSP7 inhibitors as potential therapeutic agents, especially for cancer[1][5][2].
