Overview

Dual specificity phosphatase 8 pseudogene 5 (DUSP8P5) is a processed pseudogene related to the dual specificity phosphatase 8 (DUSP8) gene. DUSP8P5 does not encode a functional protein and contains point mutations and genomic deletions that prevent it from producing an active enzyme. Its sequences are present on chromosome 11q22.2, in contrast to the functional DUSP8 gene, which is located at 11p15.5[5]. DUSP8P5 is detected in various human tissues and cell lines, including several breast cancer cell lines, but there is no evidence that it has a functional role or is involved in disease or therapeutic targeting. It is primarily relevant as a genetic marker to distinguish from the functional gene but not as a protein or therapeutic entity[5]. In summary, DUSP8P5 is a pseudogene, not a functional protein, enzyme, receptor, or therapeutic target. Information about DUSP8 refers to the active protein, but DUSP8P5 itself does not encode a drug target and should not be listed as one[5].
