Overview

Dual specificity protein phosphatase 1 (DUSP1), also known as MAP kinase phosphatase-1 (MKP-1), is an enzyme that dephosphorylates both tyrosine and serine/threonine residues on target proteins, particularly MAP kinases (ERKs, JNK, and p38). DUSP1 plays a critical role in regulating cellular responses to environmental stress and inflammation by terminating MAPK signaling cascades involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and immune responses. It is a key negative regulator of inflammation and mediates the anti-inflammatory effects of glucocorticoids.
