Dual-specificity tyrosine-phosphorylation-regulated kinase 1A (DYRK1A) is a serine/threonine kinase involved in regulating multiple cellular processes, including cell proliferation, DNA damage repair, neuronal development, and apoptosis. Its overexpression in Down syndrome contributes to cognitive deficits, and mutations are linked to autism spectrum disorder and mental retardation. While it acts as oncogene or tumor suppressor in cancer, DYRK1A selective inhibitors are under investigation as potential therapeutics across numerous diseases.
