Overview

Dynein axonemal heavy chain 14 is a force-generating protein found in motile cilia and flagella, encoded by the DNAH14 gene in humans[1][2][6]. It belongs to the family of axonemal dyneins, which are large motor ATPases that drive the beating of cilia and flagella by moving along microtubules[1][2]. DNAH14 is critical for generating movement towards the minus ends of microtubules and is implicated in processes such as mucociliary clearance in the respiratory tract and sperm motility[1]. Mutations in DNAH14 have been associated with neurodevelopmental disorders and other conditions involving ciliary dysfunction[3]. This protein is not currently considered a therapeutic target, nor are there any known direct pharmacological modulators.
