Overview

Dynein axonemal intermediate chain 3 (DNAI3) is a protein component of the axonemal dynein complex, which is essential for the structure and function of motile cilia and flagella[1][2][5]. It contains WD repeat motifs and enables Arp2/3 complex binding, negatively regulating actin nucleation as well as cell migration and invasion, primarily as part of cytoskeletal and ciliary functions[1][3][4][6][10]. DNAI3 has been associated with diseases involving ciliary dysfunction, most notably primary ciliary dyskinesia and certain developmental disorders such as occipital encephalocele[1]. Although it regulates important cell functions and has disease associations, it is not generally considered a direct therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter.
