Overview

Dynein axonemal intermediate chain 7 is a protein encoded by the DNAI7 gene in humans. It is a component of the axonemal dynein complex and is involved in the regulation of cilia and flagella function, likely through its microtubule and beta-tubulin binding activities. It may also be implicated in cell cycle regulation and has been associated with diseases such as lung adenoma, cancer susceptibility, and Temtamy syndrome. DNAI7 is not an established therapeutic drug target or receptor, but it plays a structural role in the ciliary apparatus and certain cancer susceptibility loci. DNAI7 is not a classical receptor, enzyme, transporter, or typical drug target, but rather a structural protein classified within the axonemal dynein complex – a subset of motor proteins that power ciliary and flagellar movement. Functional studies link its role to ciliary motion and cytoskeletal microtubule binding, implicating it in ciliopathies and certain cancers, but there are currently no drugs directly targeting this protein, nor established mechanisms of action for potential modulators. DNAI7 is also known as the cancer susceptibility candidate 1 protein (CASC1), reflecting its annotation in cancer genetics research.
