Dynein axonemal light chain 4 is a small protein subunit (sometimes written as "DNAL4") found in the outer arm dynein complexes of motile cilia and flagella in eukaryotic cells[4][6]. As part of the axonemal dynein motor, it helps regulate and stabilize the interaction between microtubules necessary for the characteristic beating of cilia, which is critical for fluid movement and cellular motility[1][3][5][6]. Like other axonemal dynein light chains, DNAL4 interacts with dynein intermediate chains and heavy chains, contributing to the assembly and function of the multi-subunit dynein enzyme complex[1][5]. Mutations in dynein axonemal light chain genes can impair cilia and flagellar function, leading to motility disorders, but DNAL4 itself is not considered a direct druggable target or common biomarker in clinical medicine[4][6].
