Dynein cytoplasmic 1 intermediate chain 2 pseudogene 1 (DYNC1I2P1) is a pseudogene, a nonfunctional DNA segment that closely resembles the functional gene encoding the intermediate chain 2 of cytoplasmic dynein 1[2][3][4][6][9]. Pseudogenes like DYNC1I2P1 are typically unable to produce a functional protein product because of disabling mutations such as premature stop codons or frameshifts. While the functional gene plays a role in intracellular transport as part of the dynein motor protein complex, DYNC1I2P1 is not translated into a functional protein and is not involved in any established biological or disease processes[3][4]. Pseudogenes may occasionally have roles in gene regulation—such as acting as decoys for microRNA—but there is no evidence that DYNC1I2P1 has such a function[4]. It is therefore not considered a drug target, biomarker, or safety concern in molecular medicine or pharmacology.
