Dynein light chain LC8-type 1 pseudogene 5 (DYNLL1P5) is a genomic DNA sequence that closely resembles the coding gene for dynein light chain LC8-type 1, but lacks the ability to produce the corresponding functional protein due to disabling mutations or loss of critical regulatory elements[2]. Pseudogenes such as DYNLL1P5 are not transcribed or translated into active molecules, and are not considered enzymes, receptors, or molecular targets in pharmacology. However, some pseudogenes can be transcribed into noncoding RNAs that might influence the expression of related genes through regulatory mechanisms, such as RNA interference or miRNA decoy activity, but there is no evidence that DYNLL1P5 itself acts in this way[6].
