Dynein regulatory complex subunit 12 homolog (DRC12, also known as CCDC153) is a coiled-coil protein identified as a regulatory subunit within the Nexin-dynein regulatory complex (N-DRC), a multi-protein complex crucial for cilia movement and structure in eukaryotic cells[1][2][3]. DRC12 forms part of the scaffold that regulates the activity of axonemal dynein motors by linking and coordinating their function, thereby enabling regulated and synchronized motility of ciliary structures. Loss or mutation of core N-DRC components (especially DRC1 or DRC2, rather than DRC12 specifically) is associated with devastating defects in cilia movement, but specific disease associations for DRC12 are yet to be fully elucidated[1][3].
