Overview

Dynein regulatory complex subunit 9 (DRC9) is a protein component of the nexin–dynein regulatory complex (N-DRC) found in motile cilia and flagella. The N-DRC acts as a structural and regulatory linker that coordinates dynein motor activity, helping to regulate the beating and structural integrity of the axoneme, particularly in sperm and other motile ciliated cells[1][2][4][5]. DRC9 is predicted to be involved in sperm axoneme assembly, participates in calmodulin and Hsp70 protein interactions, and is required for proper ciliary and flagellar motility, impacting various cellular processes reliant on these microtubule-based organelles[5]. It is not currently considered a direct drug target or receptor, but its function is essential for normal function of motile cilia, and its disruption may contribute to ciliary dyskinesia or flagellar dysfunction[4][5].
