Overview

Dysbindin domain-containing protein 1 (DBNDD1) is an evolutionarily conserved, intrinsically disordered cytoplasmic protein expressed in many tissues, including neuronal cells, but lacking expression in ovary, adipose tissue, and bone marrow. Its structure confers potential for regulatory protein-protein interactions. Functionally, DBNDD1 is predicted to play a role in the regulation of signal transduction, but its precise physiological roles remain unclear. Genetic studies highlight DBNDD1 as a candidate susceptibility locus for melanoma, with additional evidence implicating it in neurodegenerative disease models, suggesting involvement in mitochondrial or synaptic stress responses. No direct evidence currently supports its use as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug interaction point.
