The dysbiotic colonic gut microbial community refers to a pathological state of the intestinal ecosystem characterized by a loss of taxonomic diversity and an imbalance between beneficial and harmful microorganisms (PubMed: 30535609). Challenges in targeting this community include high inter-individual variability and the risk of introducing opportunistic pathogens during treatment.
