E2F1-regulated inhibitor of cell death (ERICD), also known as ERIC or TCONS_00014875, is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcriptionally regulated by the transcription factor E2F1. Its expression increases in response to E2F1 activity and during DNA damage by agents such as etoposide. ERICD restricts E2F1-induced apoptosis, forming a negative feedback loop to modulate the pro-apoptotic effects of E2F1. Knockdown of ERICD enhances apoptosis triggered by either E2F1 or DNA damage, suggesting that ERICD fine-tunes cell death pathways especially relevant in cancer biology and the cellular response to chemotherapy. It does not encode a protein and is not considered a therapeutic target (e.g., receptor, enzyme), but it serves as an important cellular regulator affecting cell fate decisions, particularly under stress or chemotherapeutic stimuli[1][3][5].
