E7 Protein of Human Papillomavirus Type 6 (HPV6 E7)

Target
HPV6 E7
Molecular classification
Viral protein, Oncoprotein, Transcription factor regulator
01

Overview

The E7 protein of human papillomavirus type 6 (HPV6) is a small oncoprotein that plays a crucial role in the viral life cycle. It primarily functions by disrupting the retinoblastoma protein (pRb)-E2F interaction, leading to the activation of E2F transcription factors and subsequent cell cycle progression. Unlike high-risk HPV E7 proteins, HPV6 E7 has lower oncogenic potential and is primarily associated with benign lesions such as genital warts. It is essential for efficient viral genome maintenance within infected cells. Detection of E7 antibodies or mRNA can serve as a biomarker for HPV6 infection.
