Overview
E74-like factor 1 (ELF1) is a member of the E26 transformation-specific (ETS) family of transcription factors that is primarily expressed in lymphoid cells[1][2][4][5]. It acts both as an enhancer and a repressor of gene transcription, regulating the expression of a variety of genes by binding to specific DNA motifs[1][2][6]. ELF1 specifically activates promoters such as those of LYN and BLK, and is required for T-cell receptor-mediated transcriptional activation processes, including HIV-2 enhancer regulation[2][6]. Alternative splicing of the ELF1 gene yields multiple transcript variants. ELF1 is associated with pathological roles in cancer and immune-related disorders, but there are currently no approved drugs known to specifically target this protein[2].
