EIPR1 is crucial for the retention and sorting of cargo proteins, particularly in dense-core vesicles—specialized secretory organelles involved in regulated release of peptide hormones, growth factors, and neuropeptides[1][2][5]. EIPR1 controls the recycling of cargo molecules like the transferrin receptor and is especially important in neurons and neuroendocrine cells, impacting processes such as insulin secretion and locomotion[1][2]. The gene has also been reported as a tumor-suppressor candidate in cancer-prone genomic regions[4].
