Ebolavirus Glycoprotein Base Region (GP Base Region)

Target
GP Base Region
Molecular classification
Viral protein, Glycoprotein
01

Overview

The base region of the Ebolavirus glycoprotein (GP1 subunit) is a critical structural element that stabilizes the prefusion conformation of the GP trimer. Located at the membrane-proximal end of the GP, it clamps the internal fusion loop and an α-helix from the adjacent GP2 subunit, maintaining the GP in a metastable state. This region is also a target for neutralizing antibodies like KZ52, which can disrupt viral entry.

02

Mechanism of action

Neutralizing antibodies (e.g., KZ52) block conformational changes required for membrane fusion or prevent proper assembly/stability of functional trimers.
