Overview

The eccrine sweat gland muscarinic acetylcholine receptor (subtype 3) is the primary molecular target mediating sweat production (induction of sweating) in humans. These receptors are G protein-coupled receptors located on eccrine sweat glands, which are distributed widely across the skin and play a critical role in thermoregulation. Activation of these receptors by acetylcholine, released from sympathetic postganglionic fibers, stimulates sweat secretion that cools the body through evaporation.
