Ecotropic viral integration site 2A (EVI2A)

Target
EVI2A
Molecular classification
Transmembrane signaling receptor, Other (as its precise molecular function—receptor vs. accessory protein—remains incompletely characterized)
01

Overview

Ecotropic viral integration site 2A is a transmembrane protein encoded within the NF1 gene locus, predicted to function as part of a cell-surface signaling receptor. EVI2A is frequently overexpressed in several cancers and is associated with poor prognosis, mediating oncogenic effects via activation of the MEK/ERK pathway in osteosarcoma and possibly other solid tumors. It plays roles in cell proliferation, migration, and immune system modulation, and is considered a prognostic biomarker and potential therapeutic target in renal clear cell carcinoma, among other malignancies. Additionally, its methylation status and transcriptomic profile may help predict disease outcomes and response to immunotherapies. EVI2A may also be implicated in the severity of neurofibromatosis type I due to its genomic context.
