Overview

Tumor-associated NADH oxidase (ENOX2), also known as ecto-NOX disulfide-thiol exchanger 2 or tNOX, is a dimeric protein containing four copper atoms per dimer. It functions as a terminal oxidase in plasma membrane electron transport, catalyzing the oxidation of NADH to NAD+. ENOX2 activity oscillates with a period of about 24 minutes under normal conditions. The tumor-specific splice variant tNOX is found on the surface of many human cancers but not on most normal cells and is constitutively active. It is a potential pan-cancer biomarker and therapeutic target.
