Overview

The ectodysplasin A receptor (EDAR) is a cell surface protein that plays a crucial role in embryonic development, particularly in the formation of ectodermal tissues such as skin, hair, nails, teeth, and sweat glands. Upon binding with its ligand (EDA-A1), EDAR recruits EDARADD, activating NF-kappaB, Wnt/β-catenin, JNK, BMP/Smad, and FGF pathways.

Mechanism of action

EDA-A1 ligand binds to extracellular domain of EDAR, recruits intracellular adaptor protein EDARADD via death domain, activates NF-kappaB & other developmental signaling cascades, regulates formation/maturation/division/growth of cells forming skin appendages etc.
