Target intelligence / Profile preview
Ectonucleoside triphosphate diphosphohydrolase 6 (ENTPD6) is a soluble enzyme and member of the NTPDase family that specializes in the hydrolysis of extracellular nucleoside diphosphates (primarily GDP, IDP, and UDP), showing minimal activity toward ATP[1][2]. ENTPD6 is structurally marked by four apyrase-conserved regions common to NTPDases and can be secreted from cells or localized to intracellular compartments such as the Golgi apparatus[1][2]. Its main biological roles include regulating extracellular nucleotide levels, thus influencing processes like platelet activation, metabolic signaling, and response to ischemic or inflammatory conditions. Expression has been observed in multiple tissues, notably the heart (muscle and endothelium), liver (in fibrotic conditions), and testis (implicated in cisplatin resistance in cancer)[1]. Genome-wide studies suggest its variants may play roles in metabolic syndromes, while emerging data link its activity to viral propagation and possible utility as a biomarker or modulator of therapeutic response in selected cancers and metabolic disorders[1][2].
Enzyme modulation via substrate/product control (e.g., regulation of extracellular nucleotides which influence signaling pathways) In cancer and metabolic diseases, altered expression may modify drug response or cellular pathways indirectly[1][2].
