Overview

EDIL3 divergent transcript (EDIL3-DT, CTD-2269F5.1) is a gene that encodes a long non-coding RNA and is classified within the lncRNA gene class. It is named for its genomic proximity and divergent transcription relative to the protein-coding gene EDIL3. EDIL3-DT does not code for a protein and has not been characterized as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other classic drug target. However, it has been identified in transcriptomic studies as a potential biomarker for disease classification, specifically in blood-based tests distinguishing cancer from normal tissue[5]. Beyond its putative role as a biomarker, detailed functional and mechanistic data are lacking, and there are currently no drugs known to interact with EDIL3-DT[4][5]. EDIL3-DT is distinct from the protein-coding gene EDIL3 (EGF-like repeats and discoidin I-like domains 3), which is an extracellular matrix protein involved in angiogenesis and cancer and is a bona fide therapeutic target[1][3]. EDIL3-DT, as a divergent transcript, is a non-coding RNA of unknown or limited function primarily noted as a potential biomarker rather than a classic therapeutic target[4][5].
