EF-hand calcium-binding domain-containing protein 3 (EFCAB3) is a member of the EF-hand calcium-binding proteins in humans, containing characteristic EF-hand motifs which bind calcium ions. The EF-hand motif is a structural helix–loop–helix domain responsible for coordinating calcium, enabling proteins to participate in calcium sensing, buffering, and signaling[1][2][3][5]. While families such as calmodulin and troponin C are well-characterized and serve as calcium sensors or buffers with defined biological processes, EFCAB3’s exact physiological function and involvement in disease remain unreported or uncharacterized in major databases and reviews. There is no evidence for drug interaction, therapeutic role, or use as a biomarker, nor any known safety concerns tied to its modulation[5].
