Overview

EF-hand calcium-binding domain-containing protein 5 (EFCAB5) is a large protein (1503 amino acids) characterized by the presence of EF-hand motifs, which are helix–loop–helix structural domains capable of binding calcium ions[4][2][3]. The protein belongs to the diverse superfamily of EF-hand calcium-binding proteins, which are generally involved in calcium ion sensing, buffering, and signal transduction within the cell[5][3][1]. EFCAB5 is a predicted calcium-binding protein, but there are no published data confirming its direct therapeutic target potential or role as a receptor or enzyme, and no known interacting drugs or mechanisms of pharmaceutical action are reported[4]. Although evidence links EFCAB5 to disease associations such as autism spectrum disorder and brain sarcoma, its precise cellular or molecular functions and mechanistic disease contributions remain unclear[4].
