EFCAB8 is a member of the EF-hand calcium-binding domain superfamily, a large group characterized by a helix–loop–helix motif that binds calcium ions[2][4]. Proteins with EF-hand motifs serve key roles as either calcium signal transducers or signal modulators, depending on their conformational response to calcium binding[4][5]. In canonical EF-hand proteins, calcium binding induces conformational changes critical for downstream signaling events or for buffering intracellular calcium levels. The biological specificity of EFCAB8 itself has not been experimentally validated, and it is not included among well-classified functional families like calmodulin or troponin C[1][2][5]. EFCAB8 currently appears to be primarily annotated based on motif/domain prediction rather than detailed biological function, disease association, or pharmacological activity.
