Effector CD4-positive alpha-beta memory T cells are differentiated lymphocytes characterized by expression of the CD4 surface antigen and an alpha-beta T cell receptor. These cells have previously encountered antigen, acquired a memory phenotype (such as expression of CD45RO over CD45RA), and possess the ability to rapidly mount an effector immune response upon antigen re-exposure.
