Effector immune cell" is a broad, non-specific term describing any immune cell that, once activated, carries out an immediate function in the immune response. Effector cells include a variety of cell types—most notably effector T cells (such as cytotoxic T cells and helper T cells), effector B cells (plasma cells), and other immune cells like natural killer cells, mast cells, and certain myeloid cells. These cells perform functions such as secreting antibodies, destroying infected or malignant cells, inducing inflammation, and orchestrating other parts of the immune response. The term does not refer to a single molecule, receptor, or protein, but rather a functional state reached by various immune cell subtypes after activation and differentiation. Because it is a class or group designation, rather than a specific therapeutic target or molecule, it should not be used as a canonical target. Individual effector cell types (e.g. "Cytotoxic T cell" or "Plasma B cell") should be used instead for structured data or therapeutic targeting purposes[1][3][5][8][9].
