Overview

Effector lymphocytes are a diverse group of immune cells that have been activated by antigen exposure and differentiated to perform specific immune functions. They are the primary mediators of adaptive immunity, responsible for eliminating pathogens, controlling infections, and eliminating abnormal cells. Major subtypes include B cells (plasma cells), cytotoxic T cells, helper T cells, regulatory T cells, and cytokine-induced killer cells. Their activities are tightly regulated to prevent excessive inflammation and autoimmunity.
