Overview

EGF-like repeat and discoidin I-like domain-containing protein 3 (EDIL3), also known as DEL1, is an extracellular matrix protein and integrin ligand primarily involved in vascular development and angiogenesis[1][4][6]. It mediates endothelial cell adhesion and migration, plays roles in vessel wall remodeling, and has a functional RGD motif enabling specific binding to integrin αvβ3[2]. EDIL3 acts as a pro-angiogenic and immunomodulatory factor and is implicated in tumor progression, metastasis, and drug resistance (notably resistance to paclitaxel in certain cancers)[2]. High levels of EDIL3 are correlated with more aggressive tumor grades and mesenchymal phenotypes. Therapeutic inhibition of the EDIL3–integrin αvβ3 interaction (e.g., with cilengitide) has shown potential in reversing drug resistance and epithelial-mesenchymal transition in preclinical studies[2].
