EGFLAM-AS5 is a long non-coding antisense RNA transcript also referred to as AC010457.1[6]. Antisense lncRNAs such as EGFLAM-AS5 function primarily by regulating the expression of nearby or overlapping genes (in this case, EGFLAM) through mechanisms that include modulation of transcription, RNA stability, translation, and epigenetic modification[2][5][7]. EGFLAM-AS5 has been specifically reported to promote growth and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in gastric cancer cells via activation of the PI3K/AKT signaling axis[6]. Like other antisense lncRNAs, it may act through diverse mechanisms in cancer and is part of a growing group of regulatory RNA molecules increasingly recognized for their roles in carcinogenesis, cell proliferation, and developmental processes[2][3][5][6]. There are currently no approved drugs targeting EGFLAM-AS5 directly, but modulation of antisense RNA function remains an active area of RNA therapeutics research[7]. *Note:* EGFLAM-AS5 is not considered a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter but is a regulatory RNA with disease relevance, especially in cancer biology. No direct, druggable interactions or approved antisense therapies targeting EGFLAM-AS5 are known at this time. The information about its functions is mostly extrapolated from the general biology of antisense lncRNAs and the specific findings about its activity in gastric cancer[2][3][5][6][7].
