Overview

EHHADH antisense RNA 1 (EHHADH-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located antisense to the EHHADH (enoyl-CoA hydratase and 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase) protein-coding gene. EHHADH-AS1 does not encode a protein but instead may act as a regulatory RNA involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. It has been identified as a component of a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network in hepatocellular carcinoma, where it appears to interact with specific microRNAs (such as hsa-miR-4459) and target genes (including ENTPD5), influencing molecular pathways relevant to cancer development and progression. Some evidence suggests that EHHADH-AS1 expression is modulated by certain compounds (e.g., compound K) and its altered expression may have implications for tumor cell survival and apoptosis. Diseases associated with EHHADH-AS1 include certain cancers such as hepatocellular carcinoma, but there is currently no evidence that it is a direct therapeutic target in the sense of a classical druggable receptor, enzyme, or transporter[3][4].
