Overview

EIF1AX pseudogene 1 (EIF1AXP1) is a non-coding pseudogene related to the EIF1AX gene, which encodes eukaryotic translation initiation factor 1A, X-linked, an essential protein involved in the initiation of translation. Unlike the protein-coding EIF1AX gene, EIF1AXP1 does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes like EIF1AXP1 may play regulatory roles at the RNA level—potentially acting as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) or miRNA sponges—but most lack direct functional significance. There is evidence for differential RNA expression of EIF1AXP1 in certain cancers (e.g., acute myeloid leukemia, with higher mRNA levels observed in females than males), but it is not established as a causal driver, therapeutic target, or biomarker in clinical practice[2][5]. There are currently no approved drugs or therapeutic compounds that specifically target, or act via, EIF1AXP1. Key characteristics: - Non-coding pseudogene, not a functional receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor - Not a therapeutic target - Sometimes studied for differential RNA expression in cancer, but not used clinically or in drug development[2][5]
