EIF2AK3 antisense RNA 1 (EIF2AK3-AS1) is an antisense long noncoding RNA transcribed from the EIF2AK3 locus on chromosome 2, opposite the sense (protein-coding) EIF2AK3 gene. Antisense RNAs generally function as regulators of gene expression, often through formation of RNA:RNA duplexes with their sense counterparts, chromatin modification, or by interfering with transcription. Specific functions, disease associations, and drug interactions for EIF2AK3-AS1 have not been well defined in the literature. However, antisense lncRNAs are broadly implicated in the epigenetic regulation of neighboring protein-coding genes and may influence cellular response to stress or cancer-linked pathways through regulation of their target genes.
