The **elbow joint** is a compound synovial hinge and pivot joint in the upper limb formed by articulation of the humerus, radius, and ulna. It comprises three partial joints: the humeroulnar, humeroradial, and proximal radioulnar joints. The elbow allows for flexion, extension, and rotation of the forearm, critical for overall arm and hand function. It is stabilized by several ligaments (including the ulnar and radial collateral and annular ligaments), supported by tendons and muscles (notably biceps and triceps), and traversed by major nerves (ulnar, radial, median). The elbow joint is highly prone to injuries such as fractures, dislocations, ligamentous tears, osteoarthritis, and tendinopathies, but it is not a druggable protein, enzyme, or receptor in the molecular/therapeutic sense.
