Clinical dysfunction of this system manifests as life-threatening imbalances like hyponatremia or hyperkalemia, often secondary to heart failure or kidney disease. Therapeutic intervention typically focuses on restoring balance by targeting these specific molecular components to alter renal handling of solutes and water.
