Overview

Electromagnetism is **not a molecule, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any conventional therapeutic target**, but rather one of the four fundamental forces of nature in physics[6][1][4]. It describes the interaction between particles with electric charge via electromagnetic fields. The electromagnetic force encompasses both electric and magnetic phenomena—electricity arises from stationary charges while magnetism arises from moving charges. This force is responsible for holding atoms together through electrostatic attraction between nuclei and electrons and governs the structure of molecules as well as most chemical reactions[6][1]. Electromagnetism plays a central role in countless physical phenomena including light propagation (as electromagnetic waves), electrical currents, magnetism, optics, and much more[7]. It is described mathematically by Maxwell’s equations. While essential to all biological processes at the atomic level—since it underpins chemical bonds—it is not itself a druggable target or biomolecule.
